Lee Oskar Chromatic Pitch Pipe: Key of E (LOP-13E)

A complete chromatic scale in a pocket. Thirteen tones, tuned to the international standard of A=440Hz, in a polished ABS and brass pipe that needs no batteries and never needs charging.

Singers and choirs use it to find a starting pitch, a cappella or with accompaniment. Instrumentalists use it to tune guitar, ukulele, violin, and anything else that needs a reference note. It does one job and does it anywhere.

All 13 Chromatic Tones

The Key of E pipe runs a full chromatic scale from E to E, so every semitone is available from a single pipe. There is no mode to select and no screen to read. You find the chamber you want and blow.

Each tone has its own chamber with a distinct position on the pipe, so locating a note becomes muscle memory rather than a hunt.

Hands-Free by Design

The pipe can be held in your mouth and played hands-free, which leaves both hands on the instrument you are tuning. Anyone who has tried to hold a tuner, a peg, and a string at the same time will recognise why that matters. It works held in the hands as well.

Built to Last

Molded ABS body with brass reeds, in a polished black finish (Lee Oskar), or dark brown (Tombo). It ships in a branded black leatherette case with a zip closure (Lee Oskar), or in a drawstring pouch (Tombo), so it survives a gig bag rather than rattling loose in one.

Getting a Clear Tone

Blow softly. A pitch pipe overblown will sound sharp and thin. Pay attention to the shape of your mouth and the position of your tongue, the same way you would on a harmonica, and the tone comes out clean and steady.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a chromatic pitch pipe used for?

It gives you an accurate reference pitch wherever you are. Singers and choirs use it to find a starting note, and instrumentalists use it to tune guitar, ukulele, violin, and other instruments by ear.

What is the difference between the Key of E and Key of A pitch pipes?

Both contain all thirteen chromatic tones. They differ in the range they cover: the Key of E pipe runs from E to E, and the Key of A pipe runs from A to A.

Is it tuned to standard pitch?

Yes. The Lee Oskar Pitch Pipe follows the international standard of A=440Hz.

Can I tune a guitar with it?

Yes. All twelve semitones are available, so any standard or alternate tuning can be set from this one pipe. The hands-free design means you can hold the pipe in your mouth and use both hands on the instrument.

Why does my pitch sound sharp?

You are most likely blowing too hard. Blow softly and steadily, and pay attention to the shape of your mouth and the position of your tongue. Overblowing raises the pitch and thins the tone.

Does it need batteries?

No. A pitch pipe is entirely acoustic, so there is nothing to charge and nothing to fail before a performance.

Will my pitch pipe be branded Lee Oskar or Tombo?

Either, depending on what is in stock when your order ships. Lee Oskar pitch pipes are manufactured by Tombo Musical Instruments, so both versions are the same instrument made to the same specification. Tuning, materials and tone are identical, and only the printing on the body and the pouch differs.
